Why do I need a "Food Protection Manager Certificate" and how do I get one?
The Montgomery County Health Department requires one for each individual business. However, it is not difficult. Once you pay the fee there are many private company’s that offer the class. Please note, The County does not offer the class but private company’s do. Once you take the class and pass the exam you will receive your certification. Learning these rules and regulations will help keep a high level of sanitation and safety within our kitchens.

How do I go about getting my own Department of Health Business License?
Please contact the Health and Human Licensure & Regulatory Services located at 2425 Reedie Drive, 9th Floor, Wheaton, MD. 20902. Telephone: 240-777-3986. A State of Maryland license may be required if you sell Wholesale.
Can I have a tour of the kitchens?
Yes of course! Touring our kitchens is by appointment only. We do not want to be disrespectful to our kitchen users while they are working. You must have a manager’s food license for us to show the kitchen as our visitors must also follow strict Department of Health Guidelines. Please wash hands thoroughly for 20 seconds and wear a hat. Please be sure you have submitted our on-line application. We will have a copy for you to fill out if this is not done before your appointment. we will do our best to give you a private tour of our kitchens at a convenient time.
I have a Catering Company. Can I rent a kitchen when I need it?
Yes, but we have a minimum of 16 hours per month which is equivalent to 2 full days or 4 half-days. This scheduled time must be planned accordingly.
Do I bring my own equipment?
We do provide some basic equipment, but you will need to bring any specialized equipment that you may need for your specific business purposes. After you tour our kitchens, you will have a clearer idea of what equipment you need to bring.
Will I be entitled to dry storage space, refrigeration space and freezer space?
Yes, once you do a walk- through of our kitchen facility’s we will discuss your overall storage needs as it is included in your rent.
The amount of space will be outlined in your user agreement documents. Please call our office for details should you have any questions.
Can I use the kitchen’s address as my actual business address?
Yes, please use 7845 Airpark Road Suite E Gaithersburg, MD. 20879. You may use this address for licensure and labels for your food products. Please refrain from using our mailbox for personal mail and additional mail.
Can I get deliveries?
Yes! You should try to schedule your food or packaging deliveries during your time in the kitchen. If this is not possible, there may be a nominal fee to help you if necessary and in case of an emergency. Please notify us immediately of any expected deliveries you cannot attend to.
Will someone clean up after me?
Each User of the kitchen is required to leave the premises (including floors, sinks, work- table surfaces, stoves, and grill in better cleaning condition as when you first began your shift. All trash and boxes are to be recycled and all trash taken out with a new garbage bag in its place.
What if something breaks?
Unless you have caused breakage by your mishandling of an item, we will take responsibility for fixing it. We ask that all kitchen users alert us immediately if anything is not working properly, so we can get a professional to handle the problem as soon as possible. It is important that we keep on top of everything so that we can prevent any further issues and expensive repairs from occurring.
